DUE to the undesirable practices of people, the Earth is getting heated and gradually leading to global warming, whose impact is being felt across multiple environmental aspects.
This book is short, crisp with precise paragraphs which serve as thoughts to ponder upon and action to undertake for each day of the year. It can serve as a handy guide to spread eco-awareness among the people, youth and students.
The book opens with poems on air, fire, water and earth as if to invocate, commemorate and emphasise the importance of the natural elements. In the ‘Song of the Air’, we get to learn about the air’s despair that initially it was happy when the human being first came to the earth but as man became more and more ambitious, talented and wonderful achiever, he began to pull down trees to think beyond the necessities of the next meal. This shocked the air when it noticed the “planet withering in front of me, my own clan was perishing slowly, I couldn’t keep quiet. I couldn’t just be.”
We tend to forget that all the things that we use are exhaustible and one day will come to an end, like water for instance, or petrol or any other natural resource that we use. We forget that our planet Earth is a living, breathing and pulsating entity like us and we need to be concerned about its welfare. We could make a beginning by celebrating Earth Day on April 22 every year and thus making a new Earth-friendly habit. The word has to be spread: “The more people treat the Earth well, the safer all its inhabitants will be.”
The author very pertinently says,
“Let us remember that this is after all our only home
We need to keep it healthy
if not Nature’s lengthy tome
will perform the destruction dance.”
In other words, by using this 365-day planner, we should practice one green thought a day for keeping our tomorrows free and safe.
