NATIONAL convention of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) was organised in New Delhi on May 20. More than 600 delegates from different unions participated in the convention. The convention discussed the increasing attempts to expedite banking sector reforms, outsourcing of permanent and perennial banking jobs and services, recommendations of the Khandelwal Committee Report, etc. Prominent leaders from different bank unions who participated in the meeting included Shri Rajen Nagar (AIBEA), Shri KD Khera (AIBOC), Shri Milind Nadkarmi (NCBE), Shri NS Virk (AIBOA), Shri Ramesh Babu (BEFI), Shri BS Gill (INBEF), Shri KK Nair (INBOC), Shri Dinesh Kulkarni (NOBW), Shri AN Madhusudan (NOBO), etc.
Leaders of several central trade unions were also present at the convention. They included Shri Baijnath Rai (general secretary of BMS), Dr Sanjeeva Reddy (president of INTUC), Shri Gurudas Dasgupta (general secretary of AITUC), Shri AK Padmanabhan (president of CITU), Shri Umraomal Purohit (general secretary of HMS). All these leaders extended their support to the issues and demands raised by the UFBU.
