BHARAT is the land where sacred Vedic spiritual knowledge originated and is being practised, preserved and propagated from time immemorial. As children of this holy land, it is our duty to transmit this vast treasure of knowledge to future generations.
But with the growing influence of western consumerism in Bharat, utilitarianism has mushroomed and the young and energetic men and women, solely dedicated to preserving our tradition as their life mission, have become rare. If we tread the same path of capitalism and open market system, which is leading to unlimited exploitation of natural resources, we will be doing a great disservice to the mankind and the Nature. Therefore it is the need of the hour to develop rishis or seers in this modern age, who would safeguard our life and the mother earth with establishing a new order as previously done by our forefathers like Vashishtha, Kaundinya, Atri, Kashyap, etc.
Indians always remember such rishis by uttering one’s gotra whenever they perform anushthanas or other ceremonies but have lost a connection with them because of the western thought and science. If we learn our traditional knowledge and science we will be in an advantageous position as regard to the knowledge. The report of the Knowledge Commission also says that a knowledge-driven society would prosper. To achieve this goal a small project was started in 1997 near Bengaluru named as Ved Vijnana Gurukulam.
In the Gurukul, Krishna Yajurveda is taught in traditional way with its interpretations. Proper philosophical outlook through the study of the Prasthanatraya i.e. the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads and the Brahmasutras is developed. To bring a greater clarity in thought, study of Tarkasangraha, a text on Bharatiya logic, with Deepika (commentary) is necessary. This is a part of the syllabus of Gurukul. Study of the original texts of Bharatiya Vijnana comprising of yoga and other numerous subjects is also included in the syllabus. Knowledge of physical sciences, social sciences, English and computer is a part and parcel of the curriculum.
The Gurukulam has come up in Chennenhalli village, 20 km from Bengaluru. Though modern facilities like TV, Internet, etc. are available in the Gururkul, students are trained to sublime their instincts. A temple of Dakshinamoorthy has been constructed on the outskirts of the Gurukul. A pyramid has also been constructed within the premises of the Gurukul, which is used as Sadhana Kaksha.
Interested young boys between the age 16 to 18 years who have passed SSC or HSSC examinations with Sanskrit as a subject, are admitted in the Gurukulam. Candidate must be ready to study for seven years – five years in Gurukul and two years in Shodh Sansthanam. Further he can be a Research Scholar and complete his Ph.D. there itself, if he desires. The education in Gurukul is free. Even lodging and boarding is also free.
