NATIONAL Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) strongly opposed the appointment of Business Correspondents and Business Facilitators under the Swabhimaan scheme started by the Central Government for extending banking services in unbanked villages. The NOBW, an Industrial Federation of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, said the scheme is nothing but outsourcing of regular banking jobs by way of appointing Business Correspondents and Business Facilitators. “An effective financial inclusion can be done by opening new branches of Public Sector Banks including Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), in unbanked areas for bringing the vast rural population within the banking network. It will generate employment opportunity for lakhs of unemployed youth. Services of 15,000 Deposit Collectors having decades of experience in the job may be utilised instead of appointing inexperience Business Correspondents,” the NOBW said in a statement issued on March 8.
