EDUCATIONISTS, writers, intellectuals and scholars assembled at a national seminar organised by Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas in New Delhi on November 28, unanimously stressed the need to launch an agitation for the promotion of Indian languages. They also jointly appealed to the countrymen to make their signatures only in their mother tongues, write ‘Bharat’ instead of ‘India’, print the invitation cards of their family functions only in Indian languages and discharge their daily work in Indian languages.
Speaking at the seminar Prof Aniruddha Deshpande said the country cannot make progress till the Indian languages are continued to be insulted. Underlying the need to promote all Indian languages he stressed the need to coin new words in Indian languages. He said the mentality to feel inferior while using mother tongues should stop forthwith.
Chairman of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan and former Mayor of Delhi Shri Mahesh Chandra Sharma said the education being imparted in schools and colleges at all levels today lacks Bharatiyata (Indianness).
President of the Nyas Shri Dinanath Batra appealed to the people to change their mentality and stop the suicidal craze for English. He said the Indian languages are richer than the English and every countryman should feel proud while using his/her mother tongue. Secretary of the Nyas Shri Atul Kothari said the uplift of Indian language is the prime challenge today. (FOC)
