LEADING writer, thinker and Muslim intellectual of Kerala, Shri Hameed Chennamangalloor, who has been forth right in his condemnation of jehadi outfits like NDF, SDPI, PDP etc. has called for implementation of Common Civil Code in the country. He was speaking at Kozhikode recently, after releasing a book on Muslim Inheritance Law who is dedicated to Chekannur Moulavi, a reformist Muslim leader, who was abducted and murdered by jehadis a decade ago.

“Much more than national integration, Uniform Civil Code is essential for gender equality. The right to wear ‘Purdah’ is as significant as the right to not wear it. In Uniform Civil Code, the Muslim community can demand the spiritual message of Quran to be left untouched. But the social messages related to laws of inheritance, polygamy, divorce have to be amended. The GoI should show the will power to bring uniformity in the civil code.”

Rayana R Khasi, who showed the will power to not wear ‘Purdah’ despite threat from jehadis also participated in the function.

Kannada writer Sara Aboobacker who was the chief guest said like gender equality, right to inheritance of parental property is also vital.

Both lauded Rayana R Kashi for the guts displayed and called upon Muslim men and women to stand up against jehadi Talibans.
