KUMAON region convention of ABVP (Girls’ Wing) was organised in Nainital on October 10. Vice Chancellor of Kumaon University Dr VPS Arora inaugurated the convention by lighting the lamp. The convention was presided over by Ritu Dalakoti, while the guest of honour was Vice Chairperson of Animal Welfare Board, Shanti Mehra. Over 200 girl students from across the Kumaon region attended the convention.
Dr VPS Arora said a sustained campaign is necessary to improve the quality of education and girls can play an important role in this task. “Economically disadvantaged people are the worst sufferers owing to commercialisation of education. The girls should make a strategy to provide quality education to students in government schools,” he said.
National president of ABVP (girls wing) Mamta Yadav said over 21,000 colleges are functioning under 500 universities, besides, there are several options for professional education. The education department is the largest in Uttarakhand employing more than 75,000 teachers. There are 800 high schools and as many as 965 Inter Colleges in the State, but due to shortage of staff, about 250 schools are locked. The need of the hour is to fill these vacancies.
Smt Shanti Mehra said the present scenario can be changed only with firm determination and unity.
