SWADESHI Jagran Manch (SJM) demanded immediate steps, including provision of finance, to increase the foodgrain production in the country from present 230 million tonnes to 350 million tonnes. It also demanded to end the practice of acquisition of farm lands for nor-agricultural purposes. The government must ensure water for every farm, that is, universal irrigation be made national objective to be achieved in the next five years. The government should also declare minimum support price for all agricultural commodities, said a resolution adopted at the 10th Rashtriya Sabha of SJM held in Jalandhar, Punjab, from October 2 to 4. Noted environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal inaugurated the meeting. Besides Shri S Gurumurthy, former Vice Chancellor of Nagpur Agriculture University Dr Sharad Nimbalkar delivered a brain storming speech on deteriorating condition of agriculture in the country. Baba Gurdeep Giri of Ravidas Dera was the chief guest at the public function, which was attended by over 3,000 people.
