BALAGOKULAM has made spectacular contribution for social and cultural unity in Kerala. Its Gita classes and other activities are attended by thousands in every nook and corner of the state. On ‘Krishna Jayanti’ it organises shobhayatras throughout the state which are attended by lakhs of children dressed as Krishnas, Gopis, etc. Lakhs of people line on both sides of the roads to watch this massive turnout. Children of Congressmen, CPM and BJP activists move around together and, similarly, do their parents. Much more than any other organisation, it is Balagokulam that has a special place in Kerala’s society.

Recently it held ‘Krishnayanam 2010’ at Thrissur, which was attended by 25,000 children from all over the globe. The highlight was ‘Bharat Darshan’, a dance based sound and light show participated by 1000 children.

As a prelude to this year’s ‘Krishna Jayanti’ which falls on September 1, ‘Kudumba Sangamams’ are being organised, throughout the state.

Speaking at a get-together at Kulanada Devi Temple, Pandalam, after garlanding the statue of Lord Krishna, Dr Philiphos Mar Chrysthotham, the Senior Metropolitan of the Marthoma Church said practising the teachings of Lord Krishna would rescue the society from present day erosion of moral and ethical values. “Society is losing social values and running after material comforts. Man has misused, for his greed and destruction of human race, what all God had created for his good. For regaining the lost goodness, we have to love each other and understand other’s pain.”

“For the first time, in my long life I am seeing children, worshipping their parents, by offering flowers at their feet. This reflects the stern efforts of Balagokulam to preserve and develop Bharatiya samskar. The future of Kerala is not in the hands of VS Atchudanandan or Oomen Chandy, but these children growing through Balagokulam,” he concluded.

Balagokulam Adhikari Shri EM Gopalakrishnan presided over the meeting RSS Kshetra Bauddhik Pramukh Shri J Nandakumar delivered the keynote address and Swami Yogavruthananda of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Mutt, was the chief guest.

Incidentally Shri LK Advani who was chief guest in the 90th birthday celebration of the senior Metropolitan and even stormy petrel of the communist movement KR Gowriamma also participated in Balagokulam get-together.
