DEVELOPED by the Karve Institute of Social Service, this manual is an outcome of detailed documentation of the laboratory sessions conduced for the past many years. Meant for the trainee social worker, the manual includes theoretical inputs, games and exercises on the theme of understanding perception, self-awareness, sensitivity, communication and on working with individuals and groups.
Divided into three sections, the first section provides the foundation for preparing oneself or the working people. It helps to develop among the trainee social workers an understanding about oneself, openness in perception, overcoming of biases and rigidities and becoming conscious about the sensitive use of self in building relationships. The module on perception enables the trainees to perceive themselves and others objectively.
The manual carries a continuous discourse on how to develop interactive work ability in individuals and ensuring a holistic professional development of the trainee. It tries to make him or her understand his or her values and capacity as a professional besides acquiring the skill to intervene when working at different levels with a variety of client groups. It facilitates the inculcation of professional and global competencies which are essential for social workers.
