Tribute to Gopalbhai Ashar

SENIOR VHP activist Gopalbhai Ashar passed away at the age of 82 in Kolkata on June 22. He was a bachelor. Born on November 20, 1928 in Kolkata he was fully dedicated to the cause of the Sangh and the VHP. He was among the first generation workers of the VHP. He became a member of the VHP’s national managing committee when he was working in north-eastern states in 1977. He was a life-member of the VHP’s Board of Trustees.

Though, Gopalbhai ran a motor parts shop in Kolkata, most of his time was devoted to the Sangh and VHP activities. He was instrumental in expanding VHP’s work in Bengal, Assam and Odisha. He was also secretary of All India Motor Dealers Association and president of Kolkata Motor Parts Association. He was trustee of Manav Sewa Pratishthan which is running many service projects in West Bengal. He had accompanied Shri Sitaram Agrawal, Shri Arvind Bhattacharya to conduct a deep study on the activities of Christian Missionaries in north-east and formulated a plan to start service activities there.
