NOTED orator, thinker and prolific writer Dr Shrikrishna Gopal Kashikar passed away in Nagpur on June 5. He was 86. He was ailing for some time due to kidney disease. He is survived by a son, daughter and grand children.
Born on July 31, 1925 in Nagpur, Dr Kashikar worked as Professor and Head of Political Science Department at Morris College in Nagpur from 1953 to 1964. He also worked in Vidarbha Mahavidyalaya at Amravati from 1964 to 1972, at Elphinstone College in Mumbai from 1972 to 73, as joint director, Administrative Staff College in Mumbai from 1973 to 78 and director of State Institute for Administrative Careers in Mumbai from 1978 to 1985.
He wrote seven books and about 300 articles. He was awarded D Litt by Nagpur University for his book Dialogue with Pakistan in 2008. He was also a contributor to Organiser and Manthan.
He was working on another book on Hindu dharma before breathing his last. He conducted many projects, surveys and workshops for the government in Mumbai. His noble contribution has been a unique scheme of ‘Employee Self-Appraisal’ submitted to the government in 1980. Another greatest contribution was the revival and rejuvenation of State Institute for Administrative Careers through which youth were encouraged to join Civil Services. He also conducted special coaching for SC/ST students.
