Seminar on Concept of Rule of Law by Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum

RULE of law is the foundation of a civilised society. No one is above the law whether he is poor or rich or any other else and even he may hold a constitutional position. Law is equally applicable to everyone,” said Justice Shri Asim Kumar Roy of Kolkata High Court. He was speaking at a seminar on “The Concept of Rule of Law in the Constitution of India” organised by Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum, the West Bengal Chapter of Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad. The seminar was held at Bar Library Hall of City Civil Court in Kolkata near High Court on April 30.

Shri Roy said the Rule of Law is the backbone of the Constitution. “Our Constitution granted the Rule of Law and Supreme Court has said that Parliament has no power to abrogate it though there might be absolute majority in the House,” he said. About the role of media he said the media can produce a matter in public but it did not have right to comment on whether one is guilty or not.

Advocate Amiya Roy welcomed the gathering. Senior advocate and founder of Nationalist Lawyers, Forum Shri Kalidas Bose also shared the dais. Shri D Bharat Kumar, national secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad and advocate of Supreme Court delivered the concluding speech. More than one hundred advocates and dignitaries attended the seminar.
