Religion-based reservation injustice to OBCs

EXPRESSING displeasure on Supreme Court’s interim order giving 4 per cent reservation to 14 castes of Muslims in Andhra Pradesh, VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia termed it absolute socio-cultural injustice to OBCs. In a statement issued in New Delhi on March 25 he said: “The castes allowed to get 4 per cent reservation as Muslim castes are already getting the benefit of 27 per cent reservation as OBC. Now with this, albeit temporary order, these Muslims will get double reservation that is from 27 per cent OBC quota and 4 per cent as Muslim castes. This is absolute socio-religious injustice to OBCs who are non-Muslims because these castes are already eating up from their OBC’s rightful quota and plus to get added 4 per cent reservation. Giving any reservation based on religion is itself unconstitutional and giving the same group double reservation is a complete injustice.”

Dr Togadia termed it as ‘Andhra Pradesh government’s attempt to divide Bharat on the basis of religion by snatching educational and job opportunities of Scheduled Castes, OBCs, Vanvasis and meritorious Hindus’. He declared that any such attempt would be democratically, legally and socio-politically opposed strongly.
