In a major breakthrough in the war against jehadi terrorism, Thadiyandevide Nazeer and Shafaz, belonging to Kannur in Kerala, were arrested in Bangladesh and handed over to BSF by Bangladesh Rifles on the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya in last week of November.

Nazeer, a former SFI activist, turned to radical jehadi Islam after hearing the fiery and provocative speeches of Abdul Nazeer Madhani. He became the blue-eyed boy of Madhani and was his bodyguard. He used to take classes at the Noorisha Tariqa, a jehadi madrasa, and exhort the youth to become soldiers of jehad and eliminate LK Advani, Narendra Modi, top RSS/BJP leaders, etc.

When Madhani was arrested in 1998 for Coimbatore attempt on Shri Advani, the baton of jehadi terrorism aided and funded by ISI-LeT fell on Nazeer and the elusive CAM Basheer. He rose and during his arrest, he was the south Indian commander of LeT.

Attempt on the late CPM Chief Minister EK Nayanar (revenge for handing over Madhani to Tamil Nadu Police), Beypore boat blast, murders of Azad, Vinod, Majeed Parambayi, planting bombs at Coimbatore press club, burning of a Tamil Nadu bus, twin-blast at Kozhikode bus stop and terror export to Kashmir (five Kerala jehadis were killed by Army in Kashmir) are some of the charges and cases against Nazeer.

On interrogation by IB, RAW and later by Karnataka Police (he was handed over to them, since he was the main accused in the Bengaluru blasts) Nazeer and Shafaz gave startling revelations. They admitted of being vital links in LeT-ISI strategy to destabilise India. They had recruited hundreds of Muslim youth for jehad in Kashmir. Nazeer, already trained by ISI in PoK, had given training to 20 Kerala youth in an LeT camp in Punjab, Pakistan. They admitted that they were behind the attack on IISc, Bangalore, in 2005, the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru in 2008. The 200 kg. ammonium nitrate for the Gujarat blasts was sourced from Kannur, Kerala. They had done extensive training at Wagamon before the Gujarat blasts. For the 2008 blasts in Bengaluru, the ammonium nitrate was sourced from Palakkad, Kerala. The bombs were assembled and timers fitted by Sainudeen in the outskirts of Bengaluru and they were placed at various locations by Nazeer, Rahim, Jaleel, Badarudeen and Faisal. Nazeer has disclosed that he received 2500 Omani riyals for the Bengaluru blasts. Moreover, the 2006 blasts at a Kozhikode bus stop were done to show the LeT-ISI, their striking capacity. He had also disclosed that LeT was working in close co-ordination with Indian Mujahideen and its co-leader Riyaz Bhatkal. On intense interrogation by Police of Karnataka, Nazeer and Shafaz revealed the nation-wide terror network.

Worried that Nazeer may become a spoiler for the CPM- Madhani honeymoon, the Kodiyeri Balakrishnan-led Kerala Police made a futile attempt to take custody of Nazeer from Meghalaya. But a smarter Karnataka Police produced a production warrant and brought him by a special aircraft to Bengaluru, throwing water on CPM conspiracy.

On interrogation by Karnataka Police, Nazeer has admitted to his role in the blasts in Delhi in August 2008. The ammonium nitrate for the Delhi blasts was sourced from Kochi, Kerala. The electronic timers were connected by Sainudeen of Kerala. He also admitted that it was done at the behest of Riyaz Bhatkal of Indian Mujahideen (IM).

Based on Nazeer’s revelations three jehadis were arrested by Karnataka Police on December 8 and 9 from Kannur.

Kannur the killing field of CPM-RSS clashes has also become the hot bed of hehadi terrorism along with Malappuram.

Madhani and his wife Soufiya Madhani are the kingpins of jehadi terrorism for past two decades. Nazeer, Sainudeen, Basheer etc. are part of the ISI- LeT-IM chain. It was Soufiya who had financed the Tamil Nadu bus burning in protest against Madhani’s detention in Coimbatore. Sainudeen’s daughter stayed at Soufiya’s house. After his return to Kerala due to a CPM-Karunanidhi clandestine pact, Madhani has become the poster boy of CPM. CPM’s tactics to woo the 25 per cent Muslim vote-bank through ties with Madhani backfired due to a Hindu backlash against Pinarayi-Madhani pact and the left was decimated in 2009 Lok Sabha polls. But Madhani is still an albatross around CPM’s neck. Madhani’s and Soufiya’s hands were clear behind the “export of terror” to Kashmir, but the CPM-led police took six months, even to question them.

The Kerala Police’s determination to save Madhani can be gauged from the fact that it sent Tomin J Thachankeri, IG North Range to Bengaluru to assist the Karnataka Police and to take custody of Nazeer and Shafaz for various offences in Kerala. Tomin J Thachankeri is the blue-eyed boy of Pinarayi Vijayan. When the CPM started its channel “Kairali” he escorted crores worth of electronic equipments, studio consoles, cameras etc. from Singapore paying ‘zero’ customs duty! He was also involved in a multicrore fake CD racket and smuggling of arms in containers to Kochi. The CPM strategy is to crucify Nazeer for all the terror charges and save Mr and Mrs Madhani! If Madhani is nabbed, then various links of CPM leaders with NRIs in Gulf countries, who fund terror operations, will come to light, bringing out allegedly the multi-crore hawala business deals of Pinarayi-Kodiyeri nexus. It will be the most embarrassing moment for the ‘pro-poor’ CPM!

The Congress has also links with several Gulf-based NRIs who fund terror operations. Hilal Mohammed, who funded the Marad Carnage of eight Hindu fishermen, was a Muslim League activist.

The Kozhikode bus stop blasts has been handed over to NIA. The Cheriyathura riots in Thiruvananthapuram where launcher bombs and nitrogen gelatin sticks were used, against police are also likely to go to NIA. With noose tightening on Madhani and Soufiya and Congress abandoning them after several earlier elopements, the onus of safeguarding Madhani has fallen on CPM, that too to safeguard its skin.

The BJP has demanded transfer of all Nazeer-related cases to NIA. It said the Kerala Police aim is to whitewash the case and save Madhani-Soufiya duo. It said that Nazeer was nabbed by police prior to his Bangla departure, but he was let off, due to CPM top intervention. Also CPM had the list of 23 jehadis confidentially given by IB and RAW, yet it gave them ample time to escape to Bangladesh, Pakistan and Gulf.

For long, both CPM and Congress have been pandering Madhani, NDF, SIMI, etc. for vote banks. At least, now, if they do not realise their folly, the future of India and Kerala is at stake. Already IB has confirmed that terror modules and cells all over India have Nazeer-trained malayali Muslim youth. Kerala is now on the national and international terror map. What a distinction!
