Rashtriya Sevika Samiti organised a function at Shivaji Park of Mumbai on October 31 to celebrate the birth centenary of its second Pramukh Sanchalika Saraswati Tai Apte. About five hundred Sevikas in uniform marched with a huge band through Dadar’s Ranade Road, RK Vaidh Marg, NC Kelkar Marg and reverberated the entire area. Internationally known gymnast Varsha Upadhye while praising the Samiti’s work said it is not only admirable but also worth emulating. “It is true revelation to find that by such marches the women can also participate in social structuring and play a vital role in nation building activity. I am very fortunate to attend the function. It is worth emulating and I would be more than willing to give a helping hand always,” she said. Addressing the gathering Sunilatai Sowani said: “If the society is to be moulded in a vigilant manner and if the nation has to reach its pinnacle of glory, unity of the women folk and their active participation in social activities is quite necessary. At home and social level, the preservation of culture and social values can best be achieved by women.” Smt Chitra Date, a Sevika from Mulund, was felicitated for procuring the best engineer’s title from among 15,000 engineers.
