Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won the posts of President and Vice President in Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections held on September 4. ABVP backed candidate Manoj Chaudhary defeated his nearest rival of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) while Kriti Wadhera won the Vice president post defeating her nearest rival Anurag Sharma of Department of Buddhist Studies.
Apart from this, the ABVP supported Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha candidate Anupriya Tyagi defeated SFI’s Natasha Narwal on Joint Secretary post. NSUI’s Arshdeep Kaur won the post of Secretary. ABVP also registered impressive victory in several colleges including Vivekananda, Shyamlal, Shriddhananda, Bhagini Nivedita, Khalsa, Ramjas, SRCC, Hindu, Ambedkar, DAV, Bhagat singh, ARSD, Venkateshvara, CVs, Motilal and Law Centre. A total of 29 candidates were in the fray for four seats. The ABVP and NSUI had basically contested only for the posts of vice president and secretary respectively as their candidates for the other three slots were disqualified for violating code of conduct during the electioneering.
ABVP general secretary Shri Vishnudutt Sharma described this victory as the victory of nationalist ideology. In a statement issued from Mumbai he said the victory proves that the youth of the country are with ABVP.
