Karnataka and Tamil Nadu exhibited a novel way to stay united and set an example for the rest of India by unveiling the statues of their poets in other states. Following Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s successful effort in unveiling the statue of Thiruvalluvar in Bengaluru on August 9, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi organised a grand event: Unveiling of Kannada poet-saint Sarvajna’s statue at Jeeav Park, Ayyanavaram, in Chennai on August 13.

On the occasion of unveiling the statue of Kannada poet-saint Sarvajna by Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi, who presided over the function, said: “Sarvajna means omniscient-the one who knows everything perfectly. This great philosopher and poet who lived in 16th century in Karnataka enlightened the people through his tripadis (three-line sayings) in simple Kannada. Tripadis set a new trend in Kannada literature and became very popular for their universal appeal.

The beaming BS Yeddyurappa received a thunderous applause when he said: “I was simply thrilled when the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi referred to me as his younger brother, “Thambi,’’ at the Bengaluru function.
