The ?episode of Pilibhit? has created a new dimension in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. On one hand Varun Gandhi has been established as a new and strong saffron face of Hindu society but on the other hand the ugly faces of UP government and secular parties have been unearthed. It is important to note that Pilibhit episode will be helpful in the polarisation of voters especially in UP.

There was nothing wrong in election speech of Varun Gandhi in Pilibhit. During his election campaign in the first week of March, he only talked about the interest of Hindus. Varun Gandhi only said, he would sacrifice himself for the interest of Hindu society and if anyone creates hindrances, Hindus would not bear it. This is the operative part of the speech of Varun Gandhi. The secular parties, the Election Commition created an atmoshphere of tension as if Varun Gandhi commited sin. Sources say, Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla initiated in the matter. Everyone knows that Naveen Chawla is ?member of Congress?. The case initiated due to him has taken a serious turn due to the involment of secular parties and the BSP government.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati has imposed the harsh National Security Act (NSA) on Varun. Election Commission summoned and demanded the CD of the speech from the district authority. The Commission declared Varun Gandhi a culprit. Varun Gandhi has been booked to create communal tension in the society. He filed bail application for quashing the FIR against him for his so-called anti-Muslim speeches.

Allahabad high court dismissed his appeal. After this he decided to get himself court arrested. When he reached Pilibhit, he was honoured as a Hindu Hriday Samrat. During his court arrest, a large number of BJP supporters with flags gathered on both sides of road as well as in court premises to welcome him. When Varun arrived at the court gate, the slogan Varun nahin andhi hai, dusra Sanjay Gandhi hai (He is not Varun Gandhi but a storm and another Sanjay Gandhi), Varun tum sangharsh karo, ham tumhare sath hain. (Varun, you should struggle, we are with you), Jai Sri Ram rent the air. Instead of the BJP flag, the workers were carrying saffron flags. Talking to journalists,Varun said, he had come to the court to surrender before the magistrate in the so-called criminal cases filed against him. ?I am not communal and the CD carrying my inflammatory speech was a conspiracy by rivals?, he said.

The atmosphere was tense. The UP Police was in a mood to crush the BJP workers. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to clear the highway and BJP workers were taken into custody. Senior BJP leader and in-charge of the State elections Kalaraj Mishra along with some other BJP leaders were present in the court. Talking to journalists, Kalaraj Mishra said, ?I am here to monitor the surrender of Varun Gandhi on the directive of the national leadership.? When Varun entered the court premises, he was escorted by the BJP leaders to the court of CJM. The CJM directed the police to present the report of the case in the court. Investigation officer submitted a report before the magistrate. The CJM ordered to send Varun to 14 days of judicial custody.

The UP government has booked Varun Gandhi under the National Security Act (NSA) for inciting communal passions with his alleged inflammatory speech against minority community at the rally in Pilibhit. Additional cabinet secretary Vijay Shanker Pandey said that the district magistrate inquiry found all charges levelled against Varun correct and he has been looked under Section 3(2) of the NSA. The State unit of BJP is on the road against the move of the BSP government. The Yuva Morcha of the party has staged a war against the police atrocities. State BJP president Ramapati Ram Tripathi including other party leaders met the governor and gave him a memorandum.

Political conspiracy: Maneka
BJP MP Maneka Gandhi said it is a political conspiracy to frame Varun and other BJP leaders in the episode. She told the media that Varun is not a criminal and it is unjust to implicate him in criminal cases.BJP will fight against the atrocities unitedly, she stressed.

What Varun says
?I am mentally prepared for all the consequences. I am not in a hurry to go to the Parliament. I am prepared to fight for Hindu cause. I will work especially in UP for three years and interact with youths on the basis of Hinduism. Hinduism is our lifestyle; Sri Ram is a subject of honour for all Hindus. I will stand to generate a sense of pride and security among youths. My only wish is to serve the nation and its people. I am not afraid of going to jail.?
