The arrest of nine jehadis by Karnataka Police who had rocked the Bangaluru on July 25, 2008, is another feather in Karnataka Police'scap. All the arrested jehadis belong to Kerala. Those who have been arrested are Abdul Sattar alias Sainudeen, Abdul Jabbar, Sarfuddin, Sakaria, Badruddin, Mujeeb, Faisal, Abdul Jaleel and Manaf. They all belong to Kannur, Malappuram and Kochi, a hot bed of jehadi activities for almost two decades.

Although Abdul Nazer Madhani'sIslamic Seva Sangh (ISS) was the prime promoter of jehadi activities in the latter parts of the eighties and earlier nineties, now the new groups such as NDF, PDP, SIMI and others have established strong roots in Kerala. They have links with jehadi groups all over the country and also with ISI, Lashkar and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Nazir, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Sattar and Abdul Hameed were behind the operation for exporting almost 300 Keralaite Muslims to Kashmir and PoK for imparting training to fight Indian Army. Four of them, Rahim, Mohammed Yasin, Fayas and Fayis were shot dead by Indian Army, three months back. Abdul Jabbar who survived an army attack and Abdul Hameed were arrested recently from Hyderabad'sNoore Shah Thareequat?a Sufi religious place now allegedly harbouring jehadis.

According to Karnataka Police, Abdul Sattar had a meeting with Riaz Bhatkal ?a wanted jehadi by Karnataka police?in Kochi prior to the Bangalore blasts. Bombs were made in Kerala using microchip-based timer devices, ammonium nitrate etc. and shifted to Banguluru from Kannur in a Scorpio. They were placed from Madiwala to Khengeri and after the blasts the terrorists returned to Kannur via Mysore.

Kerala Police investigation now reveals that this group primarily belongs to SIMI, which was responsible for several terror operations in Kerala like Kannur bus stand blast, Beypore blast, burning of Tamil Nadu buses, seizure of pipe bombs and gelatine sticks and threat to assassinate former Kerala CPM Chief Minister E K Nayanar.

The arrested hard-core SIMI militants underwent an extensive training programme at the Wagamon Camp in Kerala, prior to the Gujarat blasts. The SIMI top leaders Safdar Nagori and Amil Pardesh had also participated in that camp where training in firearms, explosives and chemical bombs were provided.

Interrogation of the SIMI jehadis also revealed startlingly facts that they were planning a major strike in Gujarat in 2010, the centenary year of the state, as a ?retaliation? for the 2002 riots. There are also inputs that SIMI militants have Shri Narendra Modi on their hit list.

The jehadi NDF, which has strong links with the CPM, since they share a common anti-RSS link, has merged with other jehadi groups of southern states and formed a new political front?Popular Front of India (PFI). They have plans to co-ordinate with jehadi groups of India and Pakistan to intensify attacks in various parts of the country and demoralise Bharat economically, politically, socially and create a fear-psychosis.

Despite the wellknown ISI-LeT- SIMI network operating in Kerala with full steam, both the Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF have never raised an accusing finger against them for petty politics of consolidating their vote banks.
