Corruption, involving crores of rupees, have been haunting the CPM ever since it came to power in Kerala, two years back. As if, the two crore collected from lottery mafia don Sandeago Martin and LIS, a lottery-based dubious financing firm is not enough, multi-crore operations involving land-mafia and CPM leaders have been going round for several months.

Land, liquor and sex is the new interest of the CPM, the richest party in Kerala with assets valued at not less than Rs 10,000 crore. This includes luxury resorts at Munnar and amusement park in Kannur.

Kerala, the most literate state in India, also has the dubious distinction of topping the national statistics in respect of atrocities against women, sexual crimes against women, organised sex rackets with police-political patronage and the largest consumer of liquor and illicit liquor. The three per cent Kerala population consume almost 20 per cent of the liquor produced in India, not to mentioned the foreign liquor arriving from Gulf and illicit liquor, locally made. Similarly the brutal side of the society is exposed by instances of even three-year old being raped and murdered. Perverted and unimaginable, a girl, in hospital with 95 per cent burns and a buried corpse in a Christian cemetery were raped, a few years back.

CPM has a great stake in the illicit liquor trade in Kerala. Many of its top leaders are directly involved in it and others are receiving monthly cuts from major operators. Judicial Enquiry Commissions into several liquor tragedy deaths like late Vypeen, Kalluvathickal etc. point to CPM leaders like (late) T.K. Ramakrishnan and Kadakampally Surendran. The liquor lobby is the main contributor to CPM coffers and illicit liquor manufacturing, is an appeasement by which middle and lower rung cadres are held together.

Kerala tops the national honours in organised sex-rackets. Promising jobs and role in cinema/serials, fourteen to fifteen years old are lured from their homes and made part of the racket chain. These girls are used by businessmen, liquor mafias and politicians. Shari, the victim of a sex-racket, showed heavy signs of restlessness when CPM leaders P.K. Sreemathi and Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited her at hospital. Media reports say that these two threatened her from divulging names of those who raped her. Congress leader

P.J. Kurien and Muslim League leader P.K. Kunjalikutty were also suspects in sex-racket scams.

Kerala with one per cent land area and 3.25 per cent population, is becoming a housing nightmare. Land is the rarest of rare commodity and it is survival of the fittest. Major builders from all over the globe have landed in Kerala and are buying land at exorbitant prices and creating ?Land Banks?. They use all tricks in the bag including armed goons to threaten unwilling land owners. The CPM, as a party, provides strategic assistance including thugs and goons to these builders, but at a hefty price. Moreover several CPM leaders including Pinarayi Vijayan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, his son Binesh Kodiyeri, have stake in several flat complexes and villas coming up, all over the state.

With CPM, supporting the UPA regime in Delhi, Congress is not talking up these issues, strongly, for fear of losing support. The BJP, as the main national opposition, has taken up these issues of CPM involved corruption scams and protested. Also the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) led by dynamic president K. Surendran has organised mass protests and agitations against:

1. The luxurious wedding of CPM'sHome Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan'sson, spending crores of rupees, which was attended by Mafia dons and international criminals. The wedding was sponsored by Xavi Mano Mathew, who is involved in illicit sale of forest lands to ISRO.

2. Kodiyeri and his sons? involvement in several multi-crore land deals.

3. Binesh Kodiyeri'sinvolvement in sex-rackets.

4. CPM role in illicit liquor trade.

5. Withdrawing of seventh standard social science text-book which preaches communism and atheism.

The BJYM had organised a fortnight long dharna in front of the State Secretariat in Thiruvanantha-puram from June 26 to July 9 demanding enquiry into charges of corruption against CPM leaders and withdrawal of the controversial text-book.

BJP state president P.K. Krishnadas and BJYM president K. Surendran inaugurated the dharna at 11.00 am on July 26. About 150 selected BJYM cadres from 14 districts of Kerala were to attend the dharna in the fortnight. Immediately after P.K. Krishnadas left, a 4,000 strong crowd of CPM'sGovernment Staff wing NGO Union staged a demonstration against price-hike. Many of these members armed with sticks and stones started attacking the 150 strong BJYM protestors. The Police did not make any efforts to prevent them and it was a free for all. Several of the injured BJYM cadres were rushed to hospital with bleeding injuries.

A little later a 300-strong DYFI mob consisting of mostly goondas, came in a procession to attack the BJYM protestors. Their aim was to murder BJYM president K. Surendran, who was taking up issues involving Kodiyeri and his son Binesh, bravely. Despite the previous incident of NGO Union attacking BJYM protestors, the police did not make any attempt to block the DYFI men. Actually their procession was without police permission. The DYFI men started attacking the BJYM men with stones and sticks. The police instead of lathi-charging and water-cannoning DYFI, started charging the BJP-BJYM men. In the meantime a huge stone hurled by DYFI hit on BJP district president C. Sivankutty'shead and heavy bleeding started. He was rushed to the Medical College Hospital and is in critical condition.

BJP president P.K. Krishnadas rushed to the scene and blasted the police for being in collusion with CPM goondas. He squatted on the main road and demanded arrest of the DYFI men and action against police who helped DYFI to attack BJYM. K. Surendran said, he saw policemen talking stones and giving it to DYFI men for attacking BJP cadres.

P.K. Krishnadas, Surendran and thousands of BJP cadres squatting on the main road, dispersed only after the Police Commissioner personally came and promised action against pro-CPM policemen and DYFI. K. Surendran announced that BJYM war against CPM corruption will go on till death of the last BJP man in Kerala. An strike was also observed in Thiruvanantha-puram on June 27.

The V.S. Atchudanandan led CPM is on ventilator with corruption charges and CPM-CPI infighting going on unabatedly. The eviction drive at Munnar, the golf club takeover etc. have run into doldrums, owing to CPM-CPI war. The food security scheme awaits implementation due to CPM-CPI feud, as to who will chair the 120 crores programme. Land mafia, sex-mafia and liquor mafia rule the roost. With insufficient rains, Kerala is in the grip of acute water and power shortage. Being a consumer state, it depends on other states for vegetables, rice, milk etc.

Instead of tackling all these problems, the CPM is more interested in following its favourite programme of murdering RSS-BJP cadres and tasting their blood.
