Himachal Pradesh unit of Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has decided to intensify agitation against SEZs and Ski-village project in the state. Decision to this effect was taken at the state executive committee meeting of the Manch held on May 16 in Kangra. According to Shri Deshbandhu, state convener of the Manch, there will be a state level congregation to reinvigorate the agitation against Ski-village project near Kullu on June 26. The controversial Ski-village project, which is considered by the local people as a dangerous move on the part of the multinational companies to desecrate the pious atmosphere of the state, was launched by the previous Congress Government. The SJM had formed a coordination committee to oppose it and noted environmentalist Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna was invited to give a push to the agitation. The June 26 demonstration is to remind the state government of its pre-poll promise. SJM national convener Shri Murlidhar Rao will also address the rally. Shri Rao will also address a rally against SEZs near Gagret on June 27. Local people are already leading an anti-SEZs agitation in this region and the SJM has supported it.
