The CPM arrogance in not letting any other ideology is also spread to the campuses of Kerala. The CPM'sbrigade SFI is not allowing other organisations to function or participate in elections. The Congress'sstudent wing KSU (Kerala Students Union) which has produced great leaders like A.K. Antony, Oomen Chandy, Vayalar Ravi etc. is almost extinct. Even AISF, the student wing of CPI is at the receiving end of SFI, with several leaders being attacked in campuses with swords and bombs. It is now left to the ABVP and Campus Front (Student wing of Jehadi NDF) to take on the SFI'sintolerance in several campuses of Kerala. Most campuses have become bi-polar with SFI on one side and all other banner under the ABVP.

The NSS Hindu College in Changannassery is a stronghold of the ABVP. In October 2007, Clashes erupted between ABVP and SFI in the campus, owing to the ragging of ABVP girl students by SFI rowdies. The campus was closed. When college reopened on October 27 SFI goons supported by CITU workers bought from outside, started attacking ABVP workers. Police party led by Sub-Inspector M.C. Elias rushed to the campus to quell the clashes. In the melee, the Sub-Inspector, who was a cardiac patient, collapsed and died on the way to the Hospital.

Even before the post-mortem was conducted, the CPM'sHome Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan declared in Thiruvananthapuram that the sub-inspector was killed by the ABVP-RSS. The DGP Raman Shrivastava, who has now become the official boot-licker of CPM, endorsed the minister'sview. Based on conspiracy hatched by the CPM and Police to falsely implicate the ABVP-RSS in the death of the Sub-Inspector, scores of ABVP, RSS workers were arrested and were tortured days together. Murder charges were framed under IPC 302 on Biju, Mahesh Jyothish and Bibin. When they were produced in Court, they couldn'teven walk and blood was oozing from their noses, the Magistrate reprimanded the Police against torture.

The funeral ceremony of the departed SI was hijacked by the CPM to demonise the RSS Parivar, more so, since the dead police man was a Christian. Not less a person than Pinarayi Vijayan, the acharya of the CPM in Kerala, attended the church ceremonies and showered abuses on the RSS! Both the CPM and the LDF regime gave lakhs of rupees compensation to Elias? family. What a magnanimity!

Now as a god sent vindication of the RSS stand, the post-mortem report submitted to the Special Investigation Team, states that the dead SI had no external injuries on his body and that he died due to massive heart attack! Although the CPM made desperate attempts to bully the Kottayam Medical College doctors, they stood their ground. As another bonanza to the RSS-ABVP, two Asst. Sub Inspectors Andros and Mathew Thomas, who earlier deposed, that they saw ABVP workers hitting Elias on the head with ?Dandas?, retracted and informed the DYSP heading the investigation team that they didn'tsee ABVP men hitting Elias and that they made their statement in the prevailing tense situation of the SFI-ABVP clash and that they were under mental stress and agony due to death of their officer. They also informed the Magistrate of their withdrawing, from their earlier stand.

Based on the above two developments, the state is contemplating withdrawal of murder charges against the four ABVP-RSS workers.

The BJP state President P.K. Krishnadas has demanded CBI enquiry into the death of the SI and the conspiracy by the CPM- police gang up, to falsely implicate the RSS-ABVP in murder case. He also demanded resignation of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, public apology by DGP and monetary compensation for the tortured and falsely implicated RSS-ABVP cadres.

The Congress Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy said that this shameful episode in the Kerala Police'shistory has demonstrated that it has no credibility and that it is a tail wagging dog of the CPM.

ABVP organised a dharna in front of the secretariat demanding resignation of Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, public apology by DGP and compensation for tortured cadres. They said SFI'sintolerance is crossing all limits. ?ABVP, KSU and Campus Front cadres are being attacked in Campuses. A few years back, in Parumala, in Kottayam District, three ABVP workers were pushed into a huge river and stoned with the result they died of drowning. A campus front worker in University College, Thiruvanantha-puram was attacked and the words ?SFI? was inscribed on his back with a sword. Girl students of ABVP are being molested openly in campuses. ?Many of the colleges have become stock-piles of arms for CPM and its feeder organisations?, they said.

With such intolerance prevailing in Kerala, what right has CPM to speak of democracy?
