VHP president Shri Ashok Singhal has appealed to all states to ensure complete ban on cow slaughter respecting the Supreme Court ruling in this regard. Talking to mediapersons after immersing the ashes of Shambu (an ox) and Gangotri (a cow), who were poisoned to death in England recently, in the Ganga in Varanasi, Shri Singhal said the country is not free from the mentality of slavery. He questioned if the five-six state governments could ban the cow slaughter then why the others were not doing it. He said without the awakening of the Hindu community the government could not come under pressure in this regard.
The vice chancellor of Maharishi Vishwavidyalaya, Holland, Shri Brahmdev Upadhyaya said the people should feel pride on being Indians and the Vedic knowledge and yoga, which are being seen with great respect in the western world. He regretted the salve mentality of some people who accept superiority of foreign-brand goods. He further said the country is passing through a transitional phase and said that when any nation registered rapid pace of development such thing becomes inevitable.
Shri Sudhirdas Maharaj, Nasik, Pragyanandaji Maharaj, Jabalpur, Shri Mahamantra Das, ISKCON, Delhi, Shri Rajaram Joshi and Shri Manoj Srivastava were also present at the immersion of the ashes. Earlier, the ashes of the cow and the ox were brought in Varanasi and were immersed in the mid-stream of the river Ganga. They took a boat and went into the river and by reaching near Manikarnikaghat, they immersed them into the river.
