Statue of Rani Jhansi installed at Jhandewala crossing

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has installed a statue of Rani Jhansi at Jhandewala crossing on the occasion of 150th anniversary of 1857 War of Independence. The statue has been installed at the crossing of Rani Jhansi Road and Desh Bandhu Gupta Road near Jhandewala. Mayor of Delhi Smt Arti Mehra unveiled the statue installed in the circular shaped park. The 1700 kg grand statute has been built with the contribution of the Rani Jhansi Lakshmibai Memorial Committee.

Paying tribute to Rani Jhansi, Smt. Arti Mehra said she was a great source of inspiration for freedom fighters. ?Her courage, sense of self-respect and bravery will continue to inspire the generations to come. Her relevance to the cause of freedom and struggle will always be there,? she said appealing to the people to eradicate terrorism, corruption and unemployment from the country. Shri Ramesh Prakash, Delhi Prant Sanghachalak of Delhi, was also present on the occasion.

Former Mayor and presently member of the Education Committee in MCD Shri Mahesh Chandra Sharma said Rani Jhansi'sname has inspired with amazing strength the sense of patriotism and fight against oppression. Shri Surendra Pal Ratawal and Shri Motilal Sodhi, both MLAs, Mohd. Imran Ismail, MCD councillor, Shri Sunil Kakkar, Smt. Nirmal Nobel, Smt. Manjit Kaur, all Municipal councillors, also paid tribute to the great heroine of the War of Independence.
