Akhil Bharatiya Vidwat Parishad honoured 11 scholars in Varanasi for their outstanding performance at Maheshwari Bhavan on December 14. The honoured scholars included Shri Keshav Musalgaonkar (Bharatmuni Puraskar), Shri Prabhunath Divvedi (Kadambari Puraskar), Sushri Kamla Pandey (Adyashankaracharya Puraskar), Smt. Nahid Abidi (Darashikoh Puraskar), Shri Girijashankar Shastri (Vashistha Puraskar), Shri Ramniwas Tewari (Chanakya Puraskar), Shri Shukhdev Bhoi (Vachaspati Puraskar), Shri Kailashnath Pandey (Panini Puraskar), Shri Sanjay Kumar Shukla (Vishwakarma Puraskar), Shri Rajendra Pal Singh (Itihasvisharad Puraskar) and Shri Udai Pratap Singh (Yaska Puraskar). Besides these scholars, three young scholars including Shri Pramod Kumar Dube, Shri Vivekananda Tewari and Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, were also honored by presenting them memento, shawl and citation.

Giving away the awards at the fifth annual conference of the Parishad, noted scholar and former Union HRD Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi said the eternal values of Indian culture are essential for the protection of humanity. He appealed to scholars to understand the crucial phase and the fast change in traditions and values of the country. ?If this crucial phase was not understood properly it could create disturbance in coming days. In fact, people do not understand the Indian culture due to intellectual indifference and lack of wisdom. There should be consensus on eternal values,? he said.

Dr Joshi said the Indian calculation of time is the best and very scientific all over the world but we ourselves ignore it. ?Our own people describe the astrology as useless but Americans while recruiting people have started seeking horoscope of the candidate. Even some doctors have started going through the horoscopes of their patient if they are suffering from any critical diseases. But on the other hand we in India are going away from our rich traditions,? he added.

Justice (retd.) Giridhar Malviya, and Prof. Jaishankar Tripathi, Mahanagar president of the Parishad, also spoke on the occasion. A book on astrology was also released by the scholars on the occasion. Mayor of Benaras Shri Kaushlendera Singh, Pandit Ramnaresh Tripathi, Prof. Shyamsunder Shukla, Prof. Yugeshwar, Acharya Vayunandan Pandey, Prof. Amarnath Pandey, Shri Ramyatna Shukla and Prof. Badrinath Kapur also shared the dais.  (By Lok Nath)
