WITH keen interest I have read Susan MacAllen'sarticle, ?Salute the Danish Flag ? It'sSymbol of Western Freedom?. Its notable features are: As the Muslim leadership became more vocal about what they considered the decadence of Denmark'sliberal way of life, the Danes ? once so welcoming ? began to feel slighted. Many Danes had begun to see Islam as incompatible with their long standing values, belief in personal liberty and free speech, in equality for women, in tolerance for other ethnic groups, and a deep pride in Danish heritage and history.

The quotations from Daniel Pipe'sarticle in New York Post of 2002: ?Muslim immigrants? constitute 5 per cent of the population but consume upwards of 40 per cent of the welfare spending? Muslims are only 4 per cent of Denmark's5.4 million people but make up a majority of country'sconvicted rapists, an especially combustible issue given that practically all the female victims are non-Muslim. Similar, if lesser, disproportions are found in other crimes. ?forced marriages ? promising a newborn daughter in Denmark to a male cousin in the home country, then compelling her to marry him, sometimes on pain of death?are one problem?Muslim leaders openly declare their goal of introducing Islamic law once Denmark'sMuslim population grows large enough?a not-that-remote prospect. If present trends persist, one sociologist estimates, every third inhabitant of Denmark in 40 years will be Muslim.? ?Some Muslims in Denmark who opted to leave the Muslim faith have been murdered in the name of Islam, while others hide in fear for their lives?.

?In 2006, the Danish Minister for Employment, Claus Hjort Frederiksen, spoke publicly of the burden of Muslim immigrants on the Danish welfare system: and it was horrifying: the government'swelfare committee had calculated that if immigration from Third World countries were blocked, 75 per cent of the cuts needed to sustain the huge welfare system in coming decades would be unnecessary. In other words, the welfare system as it existed was being exploited by immigrants to the point of eventually bankrupting the government?. ?Many believe that what happens in the next decade will determine whether Denmark survives as a bastion of good living, humane thinking and social responsibility, or whether it becomes a nation at civil war with supporters of Sharia law.?

The phenomenon of unbridled growth of Islamic fundamentalism, combined with terrorism, has now become a global problem. So, it has to be tackled both nationally and internationally. In 2005, I had penned down certain suggestions in this regard and am reproducing them here: ?To combat this unconventional and undeclared Islamic war, the non-Muslim and non-Marxist nations must first make a common cause. Even the Quran provides its justification. Ayats 19-22 of Sura LVIII divide humanity in two distinct parties, namely, followers of the Quran and prophet Mohammed make the party of Allah and all others make the party of devil. There is also the injunction that the party of Allah should physically conquer the party of devil. For their survival, therefore, the non-Muslim nations should get together. Each of them should enact special laws in respect of Muslims, giving them the same treatment as the Muslim governments give their non-Muslim subjects or non-Muslim immigrants. Simultaneously, they should bring a resolution before the Security Council requiring every non-Muslim State to delete all passages from the Quran and the Hadith, (meant for teaching institutions or for the general public), which preach or sanctify religious animosity between Muslims and non-Muslims, inspire religious war, called jehad, terrorist activities, including suicide bombing or justify killings of kafirs (non-Muslims). Unabridged copies of the Quran may be kept in the archives fo record and reference by research scholars.

The above two steps, though non-violent, will initially cause strong protests from hard-core Islamists, but gradually their saner elements, who have been kept muzzled for long, will come out in the open with cries for reforms and to go along with the modern thoughts of secularism, principles of co-existence, and religious freedom. In the ensuing intellectual debate, large numbers of Muslims would like to embrace Christianity, Buddhism or Hinduism. Leaders of these faiths should also, therefore, get ready to absorb such of the Muslims in their religion and social order. Those who still remain filled with jehadi fervour have to be tackled with counter jehadi measures?both persuasive and coercive?.
