The danger of Bangladeshi infiltration and its impact are far more than anyone could imagine. In states like West Bengal and Assam, the Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators are seen in large numbers and the natives regard them as Bengalis since they introduce themselves that way. It is a common knowledge now that many of them are either ISI agents or members of underworld gangs known as ?Companies?. Their presence is a threat to any state and particularly West Bengal, as the guilt-stricken commies would go to any extent to placate Muslims in the state.
To this day, little is known outside Bengal about the volume of infiltration into West Bengal. Till recently, even West Bengal public were hardly aware of the lengthening shadow of that threat over them. The reason is simple. Both the dominant political groups, the Left Front and the Congress, dared not rub the Muslims on the wrong side. They look upon the Bangladeshis as their vote-banks.
It is only recently that the West Bengal press seems to have woken up to the gravity of the problem. They are now coming out with devastating details. In fact, the Bangladeshi Muslims? influx into the state is being engineered by the Bangladeshi regime in pursuance of the decades-old design of converting it into an Islamic state. In fact, in the last few months, at least eight Bangladeshi criminals have been arrested from West Bengal By sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CDI). The latest arrest took place recently when CDI sleuths picked up two Bangladeshi contract killers who had been given supari to kill a Bengali businessman in Bhopal. Gang leader Tamzed Ahmed, 25, was arrested along with another accomplice, however two other members managed to escape.
Last month, Harris Ahmad, a 43-year-old don from Bangladesh, was taken into custody by the CID'sspecial operation group in North 24-Parganas. He was wanted for at least 40 murders and dozens of extortion cases in Bangladesh. He had left Bangladesh nine years ago and had been living with his family in a posh apartment since then, posing as an Indian.
The Border Security Force had arrested six Bangladeshi hardcore criminals from a hotel at Bangaon of West Bengal recently. According to information received, soon after the arrest, local CPM leader and municipal representative Ratan Saha, who allegedly sheltered the criminals, went on hiding.
Intelligence sources reveal that Bangladesh'sinterim government started cracking down on criminals. Owing to this, the number of Bangladeshi criminals crossing over to seek shelter in Kolkata and border districts of West Bengal has gone up. But here too they have continued their criminal activities by forging links with local criminals in the state. Police arrested Tanvir-ul Islam, alias Joy, recently from North 24-Parganas. He was wanted in Bangladesh for the 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally in Dhaka, which killed 24 people, including two Awami leaders. Here in West Bengal like other criminals, he is involved in cross-border smuggling. There are others who, in association with local criminals, carry on gun-running, narcotics smuggling, car thefts and human trafficking rackets from their hideouts. (FOC)
