Terrorists selected for police training
LET the country be warned in time that Al-Umma is an Islamist terrorist outfit banned in Tamil Nadu. A total of 65 ultras trained in Al-Umma camps have taken part in the examinations for the posts of police sub-inspectors in Tamil Nadu, president of state BJP Shri L Ganesan disclosed on June 14, 2007, at Chennai. Urging the state government to enquire into the issue, Shri Ganesan said three influential persons had recommended the ultras to sit for the examinations. Also, a report in the Tamil political weekly Thuglak of June 13, 2007, had revealed the shocking fact that 42 persons ?belonging to a terrorist outfit have been selected for the post of police sub-inspector? in the recently held selection test in Tamil Nadu. The state and central intelligence agencies have alerted the governments about this dreadful development, the report said. Discrimination against Sanskrit
THE prevailing state government rules prevent state toppers from receiving the honour because they had opted for Sanskrit. But, this year, they were duly honoured, thanks to Samskrita Bharati, Tamil Nadu. The munificent support of Shri Sivasankara Nadar of Sterling Infotec, Shri Venu Srinivasan of TVS Motors and Shri Vellayyan of Murugappa Group made it all happen. Shri S. Gurumurthy, noted columnist, played a key role in obtaining this support. Sushri P. Indu Rekha of Savithri Vidyasala Hindu Girls Higher Secondary School, Trichy, scored the highest total (1190/1200) in Plus Two examination in Tamil Nadu having Samskritam as second language. She has secured 198 marks in Samskritam. Since a non-Tamil language student'stotal marks are not considered for state ranking, she is not entitled to the honour of state topper as per Tamil Nadu government rules. At a solemn function at the Swami Vivekananda Centenary Hall of Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, on June 16, 2007, Samskrita Bharati felicitated the state topper by awarding her rupees one lakh. Swami Gautamananda, President of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, gave away the amount. Sushri R. Swathi of DAV Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Gill Nagar, Chennai, who scored 1187/1200 was awarded Rs. 60,000. Sushri Padma Lavanya (SDAV Adambakkam) and

Shri T.P. Viswanath (DAV Gopalapuram) who scored 1186/1200 were awarded Rs. 40,000 each. A special award was given to Sushri Musafirah Mymoon (DAV School, Mugapair, Chennai) for scoring high marks in Samskritam. Justice M. Rama Jois, former Chief Justice, Punjab & Haryana High Court and former Governor of Jharkhand & Bihar, presided over the function. Shri Chamu Krishna Shastri, all India secretary, Samskrita Bharati, spoke on the occasion. Shri K. Suryanarayana Rao, all India president, Samskrita Bharati and Shri M.M. Alex, state president, were present on the occasion. Dr. R. Ramachandran, state secretary, welcomed the gathering. Shri M. Sriram, state organising secretary, introduced the dignitaries. Noted playback singer and Carnatic musician Shri P. Unnikrishnan rendered the invocation at beginning. Shri Guruji memorial lecture
THE ?Shri Guruji Memorial Lecture? by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Vedanta teacher of world renown and president of Shri Guruji Centenary Celebrations Committee, Tamil Nadu, provided a fitting finale to the year-long centenary celebrations in Tamil Nadu. Over 120 dignitaries including members of the committee attended the lecture held in Hotel Savera, Chennai, on June 16, 2007. At the outset, Shri. K. Surya-narayana Rao, who had the fortune of over three decades of association with Shri Guruji, dwelt upon the unifying nature of Shri Guruji'spersonality in testing times. Several men and women who devote their lives in the service of the needy sections of society in the state in their own way (cow protection, tree planting, anna daanam, etc) were honoured on the occasion. Shri R.V.S. Marimuthu, working president of the Committee proposed a vote of thanks. Earlier, Shri S. Viswanathan, secretary, welcomed the gathering. Shri Raman, treasurer, submitted audited accounts of the celebrations in Tamil Nadu.
