Thousands of saints assembled at a Sant Sammelan held in Nepal have demanded the Government of Nepal to declare the country an independent, self-reliant, sovereign and democratic Hindu nation, instead of declaring it a secular country. ?The Himalayas is the playground of Lord Shiva and innumerable saints, tapasvis, rishis and sages developed the practical views of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, ekam sadviprah bahuda vadanti, and savre sukhinah santu, in this land. With this cultural legacy, Nepal has always been an independent, self-reliant and sovereign Hindu nation. The Mughals and the British too could not establish their rule here,? said Dr Ramvilas Vedanti, the senior Peethadhishwar of Ayodhya, while speaking at the Sammelan, which concluded on July 22.

Shri Vedanti said Nepal has been and will be a Hindu nation, whichever form of administration is adopted here. It is the people of the country who will decide what form of administration they want for themselves. It is to be noted that the revived Parliament of Nepal, comprising seven political parties and Maoists, has adopted a resolution declaring the country a secular state. Exhorting the saints, Dr Vedanti said all the saints should be ready to sacrifice like Dadhichi, for restoring the status of Hindu nation to Nepal.

Convenor of the Sammelan, Shri Kamalnayanacharya Maharaj, Peethad-hishwar of Muktinath, emphasised the need for awakening the people of Nepal to achieve this objective. Stating that untouchability has no place in Hinduism he emphasised that a sense of social harmony should be instilled into the society. The prominent saints who participated in the Sammelan included Shri Manmahant Jagannath Das Maharaj (Matihani Mutt), Shri Ramtahal Das Vedanti (Janakpur), Sambudhdhadev Maharaj (Mrigasthali), Mahant Mohandas Maharaj (Narayan Anchal), Balsant Mohansharan Das (Koshi Anchal), Ramsharan Das (Sagarmatha) and Mahant Nehardas Maharaj (Kabir Mutt).
