Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the largest labour organisation of the country, is going to set up a labour study, training and research centre at Kochi in Kerala. The centre will be run by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sewa Kendram. This unique project has been set up by BMS with thrust being given on training and retraining of workers, orientation, counselling, industrial safety, research in all labour welfare legislations, developing trade union leaders with quality and character competent to meet the challenges of new economic and industrial scenario of globalisation. A full-fledged reference library is also part of the project. The prime objective of this centre is to create a new work force with ideal work culture, ideal family life and a sense of national commitment. Since men are being replaced by machines under the pretext of modernisation and mechanisation and man power is the precious resource of this country, the centre will undertake research as to how this man power-human resources-can be better utilised by generating more employment opportunities with thrust on increasing productivity, which will bring only prosperity to the workers, industries and the nation as a whole. The center will also take initiative in conducting refresher courses for small and medium entrepreneurs, industrialists, self-employed, etc. with a view to fulfilling the concept of industrial policy. Laying the foundation stone for the centre Shri R. Venugopalan, former BMS president, termed the initiative of the project as very timely in the era of globalisation where labour is termed and treated as a mere commodity. Kendram Chairman and BMS national vice president Adv. C.K. Saji Narayanan presided over the function.
