ABRSM executive body meets in Kota
Oppose religious reservation
FOC

The UPA Government'sEducation Policy is a naked attempt to befool the people and the teaching community in particular. This has been the general refrain of the speakers at the executive body meeting of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) that met in Kota from July 22 to 23. Taking the appointment of para-teachers in schools on a salary of Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 per month, the ABRSM took serious note of the negligence of education by both the Central and State Governments. ?It is a clear indication that the Government is seeking an escape route via same old excuse of lack of funds. Thus, honouring teachers with a lot of fanfare on Teacher'sDay is a cruel joke while education is languishing in the country and is being cunningly pushed towards privatisation,? the scholars said.

The teachers termed the 50 per cent reservation of seats for Muslims in the Aligarh Muslim University as a shameless attempt to appease the Muslim community. ?The decision is politically motivated and will undoubtedly encourage the divisive forces further. The community reservation in a central university is also a slap on the face of secularism and is a direct affront to the Constitution. It is a thinly veiled plan for creating a vote-bank for the ruling UPA alliance. The ABRSM strongly condemns it and demands its withdrawal forthwith,? the executive body unanimously said.
