Mangayar Mangalam, a wing of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, in association with Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority and Indian Medical Association, organised a free legal aid and awareness camp for women recently at Marthandam IMA hall in Kanyakumari district. Shri S. Muthuraj, chief judicial magistrate, Kanyakumari district, Shri S. Nagarajan, Shri M. Nazir Ahmed, Principal Sub-judge and secretary of Kanyakumari district Legal Service Authority, Shri T. Kripanithi, first Additional Sub-judge, Nagercoil, Shri M.P. Subramanian, second Additional Sub-judge, Smt. K. Karunanidhi, principal district Munsif and Smt. Rajalaxmi, judicial magistrate imparted legal awareness to rural women. Mangayar Mangalam state secretary Smt. Geetha Ravindraan and Mangayar Mangalam life patron, Dr Navakumari inaugurated the camp. Advocate Gowri Thulasi, district secretary, Mangayar Mangalam, submitted 32 petitions of various categories on behalf of the victimised rural women. Around 350 rural women of Kanyakumari district availed the benefits of the camp. The petitions ranged from eve-teasing, dowry, harassments, economic crimes, civil disputes, maintenance cases, cheating to other criminal offences.
