Manoj Ghosh, popularly known as Manoj Da, Prant Sanghchalak of Dakshin Banga Prant, passed away in Kolkata on December 20 at Commend Hospital. He was 70. Born in 1935 at Taltala village of the then East Bengal, Manoj Da was the oldest among his eight brothers and sisters. He was paid rich tributes by not only the Sangh Swayamsevaks of the region but also by people drawn from all walks of life. Manoj Da had a bright educational career. He became a lecturer at Shibpur Engineering College of Howrah. But he left it to join the Indian Air Force in 1962 and retired as a group captain in February 1992. He was honoured with the Vishisht Sewa Medal (VSM) by the Air Force. After retirement he dedicated his whole life to Sangh work. He held the responsibility of Kolkata Mahanagar Sanghchalak, Poorva Kshetra Karyavah and Prant Sanghchalak. He was also actively involved in the activities of Poorva Sainik Sewa Parishad.
In his condolence message, Sarsanghchalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan said that Manoj Da always held a positive outlook. ?I had gone to the hospital to ask for his well-being on December 14. In the hospital too he had the same positive outlook and spirit that he had shown at the time of constituting the Poorva Sainik Sewa Parishad in West Bengal. Though, there are various organisations that work for well-being of ex-servicemen, it was his ideology to engage the disciplined section of the society into service activities that was unique. After the formation of the Parishad, he became the epicentre of the organisation. He was preparing for organising conventions in Delhi, Mumbai Kolkata and other cities of the country. But, perhaps nature did not give him enough time for serving the country. I hope the inspiration he instilled among the various people, would help them march ahead with the same resolve that he had,? Shri Sudarshan said in his condolence message. Brig. R. B. Sharma, general secretary of PSSP, also condoled the death of Manoj Da.
