Delhi unit of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has demanded a thorough enquiry into the case of stealing the statue of Dr K.B. Hedgewar. Thanking the Delhi police for recovering the stolen statue, the Sangh also urged the administration to install it at the same park of Keshav Puram from where it was stolen on the night of November 24. The Sangh, however, with the help of the local authorities, had re-installed a temporary statue of Dr Hedgewar at the same place on November 25.
The Sangh requested the police and the Delhi administration to ensure the security of statues of Pandit Deendayal Upadhayaya as well as that of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, installed in different parts of Delhi, as the Sangh fears that anti-social elements may target these statues also to destabilise peace of Delhi.
Talking to Organiser, Shri Satyanarain Bansal, Delhi Prant Sanghchalak, demanded that the whole gang behind the theft of the statute should be busted and the culprits be punished strictly.
It is to be noted that a statue of Dr Hedgewar was stolen from the A-1 Park of Keshav Puram in Delhi where it was installed by the Delhi administration in 1990. Following strong protests from the RSS and the general public, the Delhi police recovered the statue on November 27 and arrested five persons in this connection. According to DCP (North-West district), Sanjay Singh, the accused had sold the statue to Ashok Shukla, a resident of Inderlok, for Rs 3,000. Shukla later gave it to his acquaintance Sonilal Gupta to hide it.
