Several crores of fake currency notes enter every year into West Bengal. And the agents then send these to Delhi and Mumbai. Intelligence officers feel that the fake notes are printed in Pakistan and smuggled into India through Bangladesh.
Three persons have been arrested by the Intelligence Department of the Kolkata police, including a Bangladeshi national with fake notes worth Rs 2.5 lakh. All the culprits are Muslims, named Ehsan Habib, Mohammad Salim and Mohammad Sultan. Ehsan is a Bangladeshi national from Coomilla district. The police officers arrested the first two from a hotel on Free School Street, Kolkata. Moha-mmad Sultan was found through interrogation of his friends and acquaintances. Sultan is a resident of Raja-bazar, a densely populated Muslim area.
The intelligence officers had learnt from their own sources that a large amount of fake rupees were being circulated in Kolkata by a Bangladeshi. The officers pretended as buyers of fake notes, and arrested the culprits. All the fake notes were of Rs 500 denomination. Before his arrest, Ehsan had sold Rs 2.5 lakh already. One lakh of rupees were sold for genuine currency worth Rs 35,000. Mohammad Sultan was a banker. There are many agents who sell fake notes in West Bengal.
Shri Piyush Pandey, DCDD of Kolkata police, said that the the Mumbai police had arrested one person from Kolkata who was a heavyweight in dealing in the fake rupee racket. According to Habib, one lakh fake notes are sold instead of Rs 35,000 in genuine notes. It is very difficult for a common man to distinguish the fake rupee notes.
After a detailed interrogation, the Intelligence Department realised the size of the iceberg under water.
Ehsan Habib came for the fourth time with fake notes from Bangladesh to Kolkata this year. All in all he has sold fake notes with Rs 15 lakhs. According to Ehsan there are at least fifty to sixty agents in Kolkata, who were called receivers. The police arrested one Bangladeshi agent of this racket named Noor Jamal Sheikh from Narkeldanga area of Kolkata last July.

The police confirmed that Pakistan'sInter-Services Intelligence was behind this move to cause damage to the economy of India.
