Former Chief Minister of Uttaranchal, Nityanand Swami recently visited Canada. During his two-month tour he was accorded a warm welcome by the local Hindu community who organised various functions to welcome him and learned more on India, especially the activities of Hindu organisations. According to Shri Swami, people of Canada were very keen to know about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its associated organisations.

Answering queries of people at a function organised by the Hindu Society of Alberta, Shri Nityanand Swami said that the RSS had captured the hearts of all patriotic people the world over. ?The general masses of India have realised that the Sangh and its associated organisations have been propagating the concept of Hindutva during the last 79 years,? he said.

Shri Nityanand Swami was also invited as chief guest at the Indian Independence Day celebrations organised by Alberta Hindu Parishad. After hoisting the Indian tricolour, he addressed a large gathering of Indians and highlighted the role of various revolutionaries during the freedom struggle. He apprised the people of the tragic Partition of the country that led to large-scale massacre of Hindus in East Punjab, Sindh and East Bengal. Several dignitaries from the State of Alberta were also present on the occasion. There were a large number of people including Liberal MP, David Kilgar, provincial community development minister, Gene Zwozdesky and Edmonton NDP MLA, Raj Pannu. They appreciated the efforts of the freedom fighters in obtaining Independence for India from British yoke.
