Shri K. Suryanarayan Rao, former Akhil Bharatiya Seva Pramukh of RSS and now a special invitee to the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal, has turned 81. Born in Mysore (Karnataka) on September 4, 1924, Shri Rao, who is popularly known as Suriji, became a Pracharak at the age of 22 after completing his B.Sc. (Hons) in mathematics. He amply contributed to the Hindu consolidation work in various parts of Karnataka till 1970. He was Prant Pracharak of Tamil Nadu till 1970, and Dakshina Kshetra Pracharak till 1990. He later guided the nationwide service activities of the RSS as Akhil Bharatiya Seva Pramukh. He visited US, UK, Canada, Holland, Germany and Norway in connection with the centenary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda's Chicago speech. Sympathisers and Swayamsevaks in Tamil Nadu celebrated his 81st birthday in a befitting manner.

A function was organised on September 4, which began with ganapati homam at the RSS karyalaya at Chetput, Chennai. The function was attended by Shri R.V.S. Marimuthu, Samyukta Tamil Nadu Prant Sanghchalak, Dr R.Vanniarajan, Dakshina Kshetra Karyavah, Shri Narahari (younger brother of Suruiji), Dakshina-Madhya Kshetra Karyavah, Smt. Rukmaniamma (younger sister of Suriji) of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, Shri S. Gurumurthy, all India joint convenor of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Dr Senkottaiyan, Erode Zilla Sanghchalak, Shri Ramagopalan, founder, Hindu Munnani, Shri A.M. Rajagopalan, a well-known astrologer and editor of Kumudham Jodhidam, a Tamil weekly, Dr S.S. Badrinath, chief of Sankara Netralaya Eye Hospital, Dr Padma Subramanyam, a renowned Bharatnatyam exponent, Dr S. Kalyanaraman, Saraswati river researcher, Shri L. Ganesan, all India secretary of BJP, Shri S. Thirunavukkarasar, MP, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, state BJP president, Shri R.B.V.S. Manian, state VHP vice-president and many others. Prior to that Suruji was presented a shawl and prasad sent by Kanchi Shankracharya, Swami Jayendra Saraswati.
