FIVE persons has lost their lives in a remote village of Belpahari of Midnapore west district during the last three months in West Bengal. This incident clearly indicates that the poor men are dying out of starvation under the Left-dominated government of West Bengal.
Shri Chandan Singh, District Magistrate of west Midnapore, told reporters that they had no news on the issue. As it is an important matter, they will investigate into it.
Amlasole, the remote village, is situated adjacent to Jharkhand border. Only twenty families live here, from which five persons have died.
West Bengal starvation deaths.
Kailash Mura clearly told Anand Bazar Patrika that the villagers of Amlasole had died due to starva-tion. ?Gram Pancha-yat pradhan and local BDO of Belpahari block are not hearing my voice,? said Gram Panchayat president, Laxmimoni Soren.
Even birth certifi-cates or death certifica-tes are not issued in such remote areas. Who cares for these formalities!
Nathu Sabar´s son, Samatal said, ?I saw my father dying slowly in my presence. The villagers daily sell wood after collecting it from the nearest jungle and sell one bundle for five rupees at Kanamuhali bazaar of Jharkhand. They earn only twenty rupees in the day after walking more than eight kilometres through the forest.?
The villagers are apprehen-sive of going into the forest for fear of being caught by the forest police. They are in a very pathetic condition; children are starving in front of their parents.
This is a single instance. But one can find many such villages if a survey were to be conducted throughout the state. This is the ´feel good´ picture of Buddha-dev´s oasis.
