The Congress workers of Karnataka are a confused lot. And the state Congress unit is also engulfed in confusion. Kumar Bangarappa, son of S. Bangarappa, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, filed his nomination papers from the Sorab assembly seat. So far so good. But the state Congressmen were at their wits´ end when they came to know that the son, Bangarappa, is showering praise on his father (now a BJP member) during his election campaign. Caught in a dilemma, the Congressmen are at a complete loss to understand whether the son is campaigning for the Congress or for his father, who will contest the election from the Shimoga parliamentary constituency. Said Kumar Bangarappa at a rally: “My father is a great leader who has served the Sorab assembly seat and the Shimoga Lok Sabha seat for four decades.” The son claims to follow in his father´s footsteps. This is only one instance of simmering tension in the state Congress unit, which has blown the gaff on party´s unity in Karnataka.
