Purang is no more Dnt> Dr Rameshwar Dayal Purang, a veteran Sangh Swayam-sevak who met Dr Hedgewar twice and started the Sangh work along with Acharya Giriraj Kishore in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, passed away in New Delhi on March 12 following a cardiac arrest. He was 86. Born on March 13, 1918, in Adampur village of Jalandhar (Punjab), Dr Purang completed medical graduation from Benaras Hindu Universtiy (BHU). He became a Sangh Swayamsevak while studying in BHU. Along with his medical career that he started in 1941 from Mainpuri, he joined various social organisations and served them with distinction. He was Sanghchalak of western Uttar Pradesh, president of VHP, Madhyanchal Prant and also vice-president of VHP. He actively participated in the anti-cow- slaughter movement in 1967, anti-Emergency movement of 1975 and Ramjanmabhoomi movement. Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee has condoled the death of Dr Purang. He phoned his elder son, Dr J.K. Purang and remembered his long association with him.
