As many as 40 Dalits (Harijans) were honoured by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad by being given the status of freedom fighters in Kanpur. It is said that the Christians and Mughals planned to keep the warrior tribes away from the Hindu society and they succeded considerably in their aim.
At a function organised at the BNSD Education Centre, a resolution was passed asking the Central Government to grant the status of freedom fighters to the Dalits. It was said that even those who participated in the freedom struggle before 1947 for even one single day were granted the status of freedom fighters but the Dalits, who had been confronting the Christians and Mughals for centuries were deprived of this honour. National leaders belonging to other religions and Mahant Mewa Das of Ravidas Janmabhoomi temple in Kashi said that there was no place for untouchability in the Hindu society. The Dalits would not rise in life till they rid themselves of the inferiority complex. Saint Ramdas had never hid his caste and showed the way not only to the rulers, but to the saints too.
Shri Ramphal Singh, the Central Minister of Vishva Hindu Parishad said that work with leather was never considered impure. Rishis and saints used to sit on deer skin to enter deep meditation; and they were the ones to remove skin from the dead animals. By keeping apart the brave and warrior castes from the Hindu society, the British and the Muslims had laid the foundation for creating a divide in the society.
Shri Prakash Sharma, national coordinator of Bajrang Dal declared that the age-old conspiracy to keep the Hindu society divided will no longer be allowed to succeed.
On the occasion, the 40 representatives of the Dalits were honoured with garlands of flowers, clothes, a statue of Lord Hanuman and literature of all religions. The president at the function was Prakashji Khakhadkar and the organiser was Deepak Sharma.
