A delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) led by National Secretary, Dr Jatin Mohanty and consisting of Joint Organising Secretaries, Atul Kothari, B. Srendran and Zonal Organising Secretary, P. Chandrashekhar submitted a memorandum to the Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. Arun Nigvekar, demanding the setting-up of a high-powered committee by UGC for rationalisation of fee structure in general and professional education institutions. The UGC Chairman, in his response, promised to take necessary action with regard to setting up the committee. This demand emanates from different level of discussions and seminars held in different parts of the country. It is to be noted that a massive survey was carried out in the year 2002 in the whole country on the existing fee structure for different courses and the recent Supreme Court judgment on rationalisation of fees and declaration of profiteering in the education sectors has termed it as an unwarranted act.
