Enthusiasm, the elixir of life
Manual of Enthusiasm Yamo, Enthusiasm Inc (P) Ltd, Pp 256 (PB), Rs 240.00
IF we complain less and face life with more enthusiasm, world will be a better place to live, says a recent book, Manual of Enthusiasm. The word enthusiasm is derived from Greek, ‘Entheos’ which means ‘the God in you.’ And so the connection between happiness and enthusiasm is not difficult to understand.
There is a seven question test in the book to assess one’s level of enthusiasm. Having done that, the manual suggests ways of reclaiming enthusiasm in life. Why is enthusiasm so important?
It is important because it connects, energy flows and one experiences god within, says the author. The book gives various small measures to take that would make our work, home and the surrounding more enjoyable. There are specific sections for students.
The author has taken a pen name Yamo, which is derived from a Mediterranean wind, which also means dawn. He/she describes himself/herself as a ‘virtual person, mostly male’ but who knows women better than they know themselves.
If one were to pause and think, we’d realise that we go through most of our chores because we ‘have to’ and not because we ‘want to.’ This underlines the lack of enthusiasm and spirit in our actions. The book could make a change to that attitude. -VN
