New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today filed nominations for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, marking the beginning of an intensified election campaign across the University. ABVP’s probable candidates Alok Attri, Ishu Maurya, Lakshya Raj Singh, Nitin Tanwar, Riya Chhawari, Tanya Mavi and Yash Dabas filed their nomination papers. Following scrutiny, the final candidates for the posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary will be selected from among these probable candidates.
ABVP has simultaneously stepped up its PG-to-PG and Class-to-Class outreach campaign, engaging directly with students across Delhi University to understand their concerns, expectations and suggestions. In the wake of the Satya Niketan incident, ABVP has placed student safety and secure accommodation among its key priorities. Under the ‘Aakhir Kab Tak?’ campaign, ABVP is conducting a survey of PG accommodations to identify concerns related to safety and basic facilities. ABVP has demanded adequate and affordable hostels, expediting the construction of new hostels, and strict implementation of essential safety standards in PGs and rented accommodations in student-dominated areas.
The ABVP-led DUSU has, over the years, raised several student-centric issues and worked towards securing concrete outcomes. These include the installation of more than 1,000 CCTV cameras, the Student Facility Centre, DUSU Internship initiative, increase in PG seats, reduction in evaluation fees, ‘Madari’, ‘Campus Kalakar’ and Pink Booth initiatives, the introduction of U-Bus services, and improvements in healthcare facilities. ABVP karyakartas are taking these initiatives directly to students while seeking their feedback on issues that require further attention. The suggestions received during the outreach campaign will form the basis of ABVP’s upcoming election manifesto.
ABVP Delhi Secretary Sarthak Sharma said, “DUSU is not merely an electoral platform; it is a responsibility towards the students of Delhi University. Our focus is on strengthening a student union that remains accessible, accountable and responsive throughout the year. The enthusiasm we are witnessing during our outreach reflects the trust students place in consistent work on the ground. We will take the issues and suggestions emerging from our interactions with students into our manifesto and work towards building a safer, more accessible and more vibrant campus environment”.
