Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched a sharp attack on the Congress over remarks allegedly involving a woman Prime Minister of a friendly country, accusing the Opposition party of compromising political and diplomatic dignity for the sake of political theatrics.

In a strongly worded social media post, Majhi said the incident had exposed what he described as the “intellectual bankruptcy” and “political desperation” of the Congress. He specifically criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Sandeep Dikshit, alleging that their conduct reflected poor judgement and a lack of sensitivity towards diplomatic relations.

Foreign relations too serious for political jokes

Majhi said bringing the head of government of a friendly nation into what he described as a “cheap political joke” was not an example of political wit. Instead, he termed it a serious lapse of judgement and an affront to diplomatic dignity.

The mask is completely off Congress. Rahul Gandhi and Sandeep Dikshit are once again proving how intellectually bankrupt and politically desperate Congress has become.

“Dragging a woman Prime Minister of a friendly nation into a cheap political joke is not wit,” Majhi said, adding that the episode reflected what he called “political arrogance and utter disregard for diplomatic dignity”.

He further criticised the reaction that followed the remarks, saying the laughter accompanying the episode made the matter even more objectionable.

CM calls remarks ‘disgraceful’

Referring to the comments made at the Congress convention, Majhi said dragging the Prime Minister of a friendly nation into a political joke was not witty but a ‘disgraceful display of poor judgement’.

He said that the episode showed a lack of political restraint and diplomatic sensitivity. Majhi also criticised the reaction that followed the remarks, saying it further added to the seriousness of the matter.

Attacks Congress party’s political conduct

The Odisha Chief Minister accused the Congress of repeatedly lowering the standards of political discourse. He alleged that the party was resorting to ridicule and spectacle in the absence of substantive political arguments.

“When there is no vision, they resort to ridicule. When there is no substance, they resort to spectacle,” Majhi said. He also alleged that the Congress had made humiliation part of its political strategy when, in his view, it failed to offer a constructive political alternative.

Focus on women dignity and diplomacy

Majhi stressed that India’s foreign relations and the dignity of women should not become subjects of political mockery. He said these issues carried significance beyond partisan politics and required restraint and responsibility from political leaders.

The Chief Minister maintained that the conduct criticised by him did not represent the behaviour expected from a responsible Opposition in a democracy.

Congress at its worst

Concluding his post, Majhi described the episode as evidence of what he called Congress’s “intellectually bankrupt worst” and said the Opposition should maintain dignity while engaging in political debate.
