The accused were later produced before a court which subsequently sent them into judicial remand.

Earlier, police on August 10 booked three people including a woman for allegedly luring people into changing their religion.

The trio was detained and booked after locals along with Hindu activists submitted written complaint against them for carrying out illegal conversion related activities from a private premise at Kukur Beda colony.

The incident came to light after locals received information about a Prarthana Sabha [prayer ceremony] being organised at a private premise at Kukur Beda colony under the jurisdiction of Saraswati Nagar police station.

The said gathering was being attended by 30-35 people who were being lured into embracing Christianity through means of inducement.

Hindu activists along with local people however soon reached the premises and staged a strong protest against the ongoing religious program. A police team later too reached the spot and detained three individuals.

Cases related to promotion of conversion via religious gatherings are keep coming to fore on regular intervals, often triggering strong protests by local Hindus activists.

Conversion related activities and its opposition have also led to scuffles between local Hindus and those promoting such activities, highlighting the growing discomfort over illegal conversion within the society.
