Imphal: Congress party is into a dangerous conspiracy of dividing Manipur in two parts. Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Leisanghthem Susindro has accused the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi of attempting to divide Manipur in two parts by creating further differences between the two communities. In an interview with ‘Northeast Live’ news channel, Minister Susindro alleged that the Congress has a longstanding conspiracy to split Manipur into two parts. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to Manipur was not aimed at fostering peace but at inciting further violence.

Minister Susindro asserted that Rahul Gandhi is delivering different messages to the indigenous Meitei and Kuki communities, thereby creating further divisions. He also accused the Congress party of using deceptive tactics to secure both parliamentary seats in the state. According to Susindro, the Congress party’s manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha election included a promise of separate administration for the Myanmar-origin Kukis in Manipur and the establishment of a reconciliation commission for separate political and administrative settlements.

“The people of Manipur were misled by the Congress party’s hidden agenda and were persuaded to vote for them,” said Susindro. He further claimed that a memorandum submitted to Rahul Gandhi by Kuki groups, including the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), also referenced the Congress party’s promise of separate administration for the Kukis.

Minister Susindro criticised the Congress party for prioritising political mileage over the welfare of the people of Manipur. He emphasised that the BJP government, with support from the central government, is working towards restoring peace and normalcy in the state through long-lasting measures.

“We are implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP), upgrading the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and have already abrogated the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Myanmar border to ensure the permanent security of indigenous people,” said Susindro. He added that the central government is planning to fence the open border with Myanmar and is actively identifying and deporting illegal intruders.

Minister Susindro appealed to the people of Manipur not to fall for the Congress party’s “violence and division politics,” which he claimed have been ongoing for decades.
