NEW DELHI: A network of 54 organisations and movements, including communist and socialist groups, radical-left political parties, labour unions, pro-Palestinian activists and Islamic organisations, has been identified as part of the protest movement behind France’s escalating unrest, according to an investigation published by Fox News Digital on October 19.

The investigation identified an international coalition of 28 communist and socialist organisations seeking to coordinate youth strikes and demonstrations across 12 European countries under the slogan “Fight for Our Future, Not Their Wars!” The coalition has called for walkouts, public demonstrations, assemblies, blockades and occupations as part of a wider campaign against government policies, military spending and economic conditions.

The findings come after nationwide left-Islamist riots in France over school conditions, youth unemployment and the rising cost of living descended into violence, looting, arson and clashes with police. The unrest over the weekend of October 17–18 resulted in approximately 2,500 arrests, according to the report.

54 organisations identified as protests expand beyond student grievances

Fox News Digital found that only 16 of the 54 organisations and movements identified in the French riots ecosystem were student or youth-led. The remaining 38 included adult-led radical communist and socialist organisations, labour unions, political parties, revolutionary-left groups, advocacy organisations and international media outlets.

The investigation reported that communist and socialist groups had helped organise and amplify the demonstrations from their early stages, linking demands over school conditions to a broader political campaign against capitalism, government austerity, policing and military spending.

The protests began in September 2026 at a school in Creteil, a suburb of Paris, following a nationwide teachers’ strike. By early October, major student unions had joined forces with left labour unions to organise actions that disrupted hundreds of schools.

According to the investigation, the initial grievances subsequently became a rallying point for a wider anti-capitalist mobilisation involving established communist political organisations, left activist networks and left-leaned advocacy groups.

Among the organisations identified were the Gilets Jaunes, or Yellow Vests, and La France Insoumise, also known as France Unbowed, a radical-left political party. Other groups included Extinction Rebellion, the international environmental activist movement, Palestine Emergency, a pro-Palestinian radical activist movement; and farmer labour unions.

The youth organisations included communist groups and Etudiants Musulmans de France, a radical Muslim student association. The investigation also identified international communist youth organisations supporting the French demonstrations and connecting education-related grievances with opposition to military spending and austerity policies.

‘Chaos Inc.’ and the international leftist coalition

Fox News Digital described the international coalition of communist and socialist organisations as “Chaos Inc.”, identifying it as a network seeking to connect unrest across national borders.

The coalition’s campaign, organised around the slogan “Fight for Our Future, Not Their Wars!”, calls for coordinated strikes, demonstrations, assemblies, blockades and occupations. Its activities extend beyond France, with the investigation identifying efforts to mobilise students and young people in 12 European countries.

The network brings together groups with different immediate causes but overlapping opposition to capitalism, government economic policies and military expenditure. Communist and socialist organisations form one component, while labour unions, environmental campaigners, Palestinian-solidarity activists and other radical-left groups contribute to the wider protest ecosystem.

The report also identified international left-leaned media outlets and advocacy organisations that have amplified the French protests, extending the movement’s messaging beyond the streets.

Neville Roy Singham’s funding network and international amplification

A central element of the investigation concerns Tricontinental Ltd., a nonprofit organisation funded by US-born technology entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham, who is based in Shanghai in China, according to Fox News Digital.

The investigation identified Tricontinental, CodePink and BreakThrough News among organisations associated with the broader Singham network that amplified coverage of the French unrest.

BreakThrough News, a New York-based left-wing media outlet, circulated footage from demonstrations in Montpellier, Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Saint-Etienne. The footage showed burning barricades, smoke-filled streets, Palestinian flags and confrontations between demonstrators and police.

The outlet presented the demonstrations under the headline “ANTI-MACRON PROTESTS ROCK FRANCE”, highlighting opposition to French President Emmanuel Macron and the political demands of protesters.

Vijay Prashad, executive director of Tricontinental Ltd. and an ally of Singham, also connected the French demonstrations to wider international protest movements.

On October 17, Prashad posted on X: “Paris-New Delhi-Buenos Aires. Let fury have the hour, anger can be power.” The statement, which quoted the British punk band The Clash, linked unrest in France with protests in India and Argentina.

Jodie Evans, Singham’s wife and co-founder of CodePink, also referred to international demonstrations during an interview with BreakThrough News. Urging Americans to take to the streets, Evans said: “I want people to look at France, Spain, and India.”

The remarks featured in the investigation’s examination of how left -wing activist organisations and their media platforms connect domestic demonstrations with international campaigns.

Communist, socialist and pro-palestinian groups converge

The investigation identified a broad range of political and activist organisations participating in or supporting the protests. These included communist youth groups, revolutionary socialist organisations, labour unions, environmental activists, Palestinian-solidarity organisations and groups associated with the Yellow Vests movement.

The report’s findings describe an increasingly interconnected leftist network in which education and employment grievances provide a common platform for organisations pursuing wider political objectives.

The presence of pro-Palestinian activists and Islamic organisations alongside communist and socialist groups has also drawn attention to the convergence of movements campaigning on different issues.

While the organisations do not necessarily share identical political objectives, the investigation identified instances of common mobilisation, solidarity messaging and the amplification of demonstrations across national borders.

The report also highlighted the involvement of student unions and labour organisations in coordinating school closures and demonstrations during October.

Looting, arson and violence intensify pressure on Macron government

France’s left-Islamist unrest has extended well beyond school campuses, with demonstrations over economic grievances accompanied by looting, arson and confrontations with security forces.

According to the supplied report, thousands of businesses were affected, while historic public buildings, including Limoges City Hall, were set on fire. Many Jewish stores were also looted and vandalised during the riots.

The violence has placed additional pressure on Macron’s government as demonstrations have spread across several French cities. Further protests were being called for the weekend of October 24, coinciding with a scheduled American football game between the New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers at the Stade de France in Paris.

Unrest has also been reported in neighbouring Italy, with further disturbances in Spain and Portugal, adding to concerns about the potential spread of coordinated protest campaigns across Europe.

The investigation’s central finding is that the French unrest involves a much broader network than student organisations alone. It identifies 54 organisations within the country’s protest ecosystem and a coalition of 28 communist and socialist organisations seeking coordinated mobilisation across 12 European countries.

The findings have placed the international leftist network, its links with radical pro-Palestinian activist organisations and its role in amplifying protests under increased scrutiny as France confronts continuing demonstrations and violent disorder.
