Delhi Police register FIR against unknown persons for threatening SEM in Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka bail case
NEW DELHI: The Delhi police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons for threatening a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) in connection with the bail proceedings of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, sources said.
The development comes amid continued legal proceedings involving the two CJP leaders, who were arrested along with others on October 12 for trespassing at Jantar Mantar, which has been de-notified as a designated protest venue.
Earlier, CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke said that he and his associates would continue their efforts despite what he described as illegal arrests and detentions. He said the group would regroup and decide its next course of action after Ranka and Das returned.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Dipke expressed hope that both leaders would be released on Sunday. He also said he was on his way to meet advocate Vrinda Grover to discuss legal matters related to the case.
Dipke was granted conditional bail on Saturday, a day after the Delhi Police detained him ahead of the proposed “Lehra Do Tiranga” rally at Central Park in Connaught Place. He was subsequently released from Mandir Marg Police Station. Earlier, CJP national organisation in-charge Ajinkya Shinde questioned the detention of Ranka and Das, alleging that they were being jailed in their own country for waving the national flag. In a post on X, Shinde wrote, “Day 5 of the illegal arrest of Ashu and Saurav. Waving the Tiranga is not a crime!”
Following their arrest on October 12, Ranka and Das were remanded to five days of judicial custody, according to Shinde. Party members have maintained that the activists would not be intimidated by the police action.
